One of the best American power ballads is by the singer Meat Loaf. The song is nearly 10 minutes long and in the chorus, he croons, "I would do anything for love, I would do anything for love, I would do anything for love, but I won't do that."
The singer is saying there is some line, perhaps moral, that he would be unwilling to cross even for the deepest love. Unfortunately, such a moral line does not seem to exist for some supporters of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
In a fake focus group organized by Robert Smigel for his Triumph's Summer Election Special, realTrump supporters agree to deporting undocumented immigrants by locking them in portable toilets, then having those toilets shipped to Mexico. They think it might be a good idea to trap immigrant house cleaners in homes and have the entire structures shipped out of the United States, because then there would be an incentive for people to remain in the new homes we have given them. And then there's the idea for gun dispensers in women's restrooms for defense against those mythical "predators" supposedly enabled by transgender-inclusive policies.
These Trump supporters have few questions as to how the United States might afford or manage such policies, let alone how they might be morally or legally justified. It's hard to know whether to laugh or cry. Watch and see which you're inspired to do.
