A newlywed gay man from Waynesville, N.C. got a rude awakening when he found the side of his car spray-painted with an antigay slur.
According to reports from Asheville, N.C. TV station WLOS, Andrew Windham-Harris was working late last weekend when an unknown party spray-painted the words "die fag" in large, black letters on his white Jeep Cherokee.
The reports also indicate that the incident happened between 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 a.m. Sunday when Windham-Harris' car was parked outside of the restaurant where he works late nights.
An open investigation by local authorities to find who is responsible for causing over $500 worth of damage to Windham-Harris' car is underway, the news station also reports.
"It about tore my heart out," Windham-Harris told WLOS of the incident. "Mine was the only car that was painted." The vandals struck only a few days after he married his husband.
"This has happened but I'm not going to let it back me down, or have me living in fear. I'm going to go on living my life, my new husband, and my house. And we're going to keep having the American dream work for us."
