A fight between a young male couple in Chicago last weekend escalated quickly, leaving one of the men dead.

Police and prosecutors say Clifton Hooker fatally stabbed Alphonzo Guinyard, his boyfriend since 2014, in the back Sunday morning, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The incident occurred when Guinyard visited Hooker's apartment in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. Investigators say Guinyard asked to see Hooker's phone, convinced his partner was cheating on him. The men began arguing and Hooker called 911 to report an "unwanted" person in his home.

The fight soon escalated into violence, with Hooker fetching a knife and stabbing Guinyard, according to prosecutors. Hooker called 911 and told authorities he stabbed his boyfriend; Guinyard was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hooker is charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $1 million bond, the Sun-Times reports.
