Questions about police brutality seized headlines again with the recent shooting deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. The news came days after a Black Lives Matter protest disrupted a Pride parade in Canada but also helped serve as a reminder of what spawned Pride events in the first place. Like other minority groups, LGBT people have too often found themselves on the receiving end of the police baton. While acknowledging that most police officers "serve and protect" the public in a humane manner, we offer some notable instances of conflict with law enforcement through the years.
