A new documentary about convicted murderer and former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is explicit about what it will say--that the NFL star who killed himself in prison was struggling with his sexuality.

Speculation had grown immediately after the suicide, but the Oxygen documentary -- Aaron Hernandez Uncovered -- will for the first time include interviews with people who say Hernandez told them about his struggle.

TMZ Sports reports that the second part of the documentary, which will air tonight and Sunday, includes comment from George Leontire, a gay member of the Hernandez defense team. Leontire will say Hernandez "acknowledged" he was gay and "acknowledged the immense pain that it caused him." The player "exhibited some self-hatred," he said, according to TMZ's report on the Leontire segment.

Speculation had been that if Hernandez were closeted, it could have been motivation for having killed Odin Lloyd in 2013. Hernandez might have feared being outed. Hernandez was found guilty of the murder in 2015 but killed himself during appeal, leaving his case in a legal limbo. He was aquitted in the murders of two other men. The documentary also includes interviews with Hernandez's fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, and with a college girlfriend, Alyssa Anderson, who said she knew of relationships Hernandez had with men.
