Oregon Man Accused of Pummeling Same-Sex Couple in Fit of Road Rage

The man accused of beating up a pair of women as they were leaving Avid Cider's annual carnival in Bend, Ore., Friday, breaking one woman's arm and shoving her fiancee until she was unconscious, has been arrested, reports The Oregonian.

Jay Allen Barbeau, 49. was charged with one count of criminal mischief, one count of reckless driving, and three counts of assault in Deschutes County Court Monday for the assault on Megan Stackhouse, 34, and Lucinda Mann, 26.

The women pulled out in front of Barbeau's truck as they were attempting to leave the heavily trafficked area of the carnival, and that's when he "gunned" his engine and followed them for several blocks, according to police and the couple. When they pulled over to allow him to pass, he stepped out of his truck and smashed the rear window and left taillight of the women's Kia Soul with his bare hands before stepping to the driver's side and twisting Stackhouse's arm until he broke it, reports Bend newspaper The Bulletin.

Barbeau then continued to beat Stackhouse so hard that he smashed her glasses, the women said. When Mann stepped around the car to help her fiancee, Barbeau shoved her to the ground so hard she blacked out, the women told The Oregonian.

Police questioned multiple witnesses about the incident before arresting Barbeau, who allegedly attempted to flee the scene before authorities arrived.

Stackhouse went in for surgery for her broken arm Monday, and it required inserting a steel plate. She is required to wear a cast for eight weeks, which will cause her to miss work. Mann had a concussion and a neck injury from when Barbeau shoved her to the ground, Stackhouse told The Bulletin.

"The whole thing was absolutely horrifying," Stackhouse said. "What would have happened if he had a gun?"
