Dallas police have made an arrest in the murder of Chynal Lindsey, 26, who was found dead in a lake June 1, becoming at least the fourth black trans woman to be murdered in the city in just four years.

Police arrested Ruben Alvarado on murder charges Thursday evening. The 22-year-old was brought to Dallas police headquarters for questioning earlier in the day, but investigators said he refused to cooperate.

"After a thorough investigation, evidence led detectives to Ruben Alvarado, Latin male 22 years old," the police department said in a statement late Thursday. "At this point, Arrestee Alvarado refused any further engagement with detectives."

Lindsey's death came just weeks after Muhlaysia Booker, 23, was found shot to death a short distance away. A 33-year-old man, Kendrell Lavar Lyles, was later charged with Booker's murder.

Two other cases remain unsolved. Brittany White, 29, was fatally shot inside her car in southeast Dallas in October 2018, and Shade Schuler, 22, was also killed by gunfire back in 2015.

Nationwide, 10 transgender women, all women of color, are known to have been murdered just this year.
