A boy and girl, both 15, have been arrested in connection to the murder of trans girl Brianna Ghey after she was found with suspected stab wounds in a park in Warrington, England, over the weekend.

The 16-year-old was found by others at the park on a path. Medical personnel called to the park and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Ghey had thousands of followers on her TikTok account, @gingerpuppyx, which was deleted after her death, PinkNews reports.

On Tuesday, police investigating Ghey’s death received an additional 30 hours to question the suspects. “All lines of enquiry are being explored, including whether this was a hate crime,” authorities said in a statement.

In a previous news release, Cheshire police there was “no evidence to suggest that the circumstances surrounding Brianna’s death are hate related.”

An autopsy is planned to determine the exact cause of death and police are still investigating to determine the motive behind the killing. Authorities are still searching for the weapon involved in the attack.

Friends told British media that she had been bullied for being trans for years without any intervention from her school. As PinkNewspoints out, several outlets in the U.K. have been condemned for coverage of Ghey’s death — one even deadnaming her and removing “girl” in an article about Ghey’s killing.

A GoFundMe account has raised more than $90,000 for Ghey’s family — almost 20 times the original goal for the fundraiser.

Ghey’s parents said in a statement that the teen was a “much-loved daughter, granddaughter, and baby sister,” according to PinkNews.

Her parents added: “Brianna was beautiful, witty, and hilarious. The loss of her young life has left a massive hole, and we know that teachers and friends who were involved in her life will feel the same.”

Tributes to Ghey are being organized across the U.K.

On social media, messages honoring Ghey have been posted around the world.
