It's no secret that out MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow is a die-hard liberal, but in an alternate universe, what Republican candidate would get her vote for president?
That's what Trevor Noah, the new host of The Daily Show, set out to discover when he welcomed Maddow to the desk Thursday.
First, Noah congratulated Maddow for haranguing California Rep. Kevin McCarthy out of the running for House speaker last week (Maddow refused to take credit for his withdrawal), then asked her to speculate about Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders's chances at winning his party's nomination.
But Maddow nearly walked off the stage when Noah asked her which Republican candidate she would vote for "if someone put a gun to [her] head because Ben Carson told them to point it that way."
After squirming and doing her best to give a politician's non-answer to the question, Maddow finally agreed to cast her hypothetical, never-gonna-happen vote for ... current Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who is largely considered one of the more progressive -- or at least slightly less unabashedly anti-LGBT -- candidates in the crowded Republican field.
