Rick Perry is calling it quits, reports ABC News.
The candidate, who has a long track record of antigay positions, is the first Republican to drop out of a very crowded Republican field for president.
Perry reportedly told the Eagle Forum today that he is "suspending" his campaign, which is the usual parlance for ending it.
"We have a tremendous field -- the best in a generation -- so I step aside knowing our party is in good hands," he said, according to ABC, "and as long as we listen to the grassroots, the cause of conservatism will be too."
Several candidates are stuck at the bottom of the polls alongside Perry, the former governor of Texas.
It's anyone's guess as to who might come next. But calls for others to follow suit are starting to pick up -- the most notable being Lindsey Graham. Result of a poll this week in his home state was headlined "SC Republicans to Graham: Drop Out."
Public Policy Polling asked South Carolina voters whether their senator should continue to run for president or end his campaign. A whopping 78 percent of GOP primary voters in South Carolina said he should end his bid now.
