The Democrats' slim chance of winning back control of the House -- which they haven't held since early 2011 -- did not come to pass Tuesday, though all of the current Democratic LGBT representives were reelected.
The current and returning LGBT members of the House are David Cicilline of Rhode Island, Sean Patrick Maloney of New York, Mark Pocan of Wisconsin, Jared Polis of Colorado, Mark Takano of California, and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona (pictured).
There were numerous losses among LGBT first-time House hopefuls, though. Misty Plowright, a Democrat seeking to upset Republican Doug Lamborn, was defeated. Two out Republican candidates, Clay Cope of Connecticut and Paul Babeau of Arizona, also lost. Meanwhile, Matt Heinz, a doctor and Democrat, lost his bid to represent Arizona's 2nd District in Congress. Brady Pinero Walkinshaw was unsuccessful in his bid to represent Washington's 7th District. Denise Juneau also lost in Minnesota.
There are other out House candidates still waiting for results; they include Angie Craig of Minnesota and Bao Nguyen of California.
