This will be the out actress's first dramatic role.
Out actress Kate McKinnon signed onto the untitled film project about the women who toppled Fox News mogul Roger Ailes and his culture of sexual harassment and misconduct.
McKinnon will play a producer who works at the network, reports Deadline. She'll star alongside Charlize Theron, who will play Fox News personality Megyn Kelly, and Nicole Kidman, portraying Fox News host Gretchen Carlson. After Carlson was fired from the network in 2016, she sued, saying it was retaliation for turning down Ailes's advances. Her lawsuit helped prompt more women to come forward about their experiences with harassment at Fox News.
Allison Janney will also star in the film as feminist lawyer Susan Estrich, and John Lithgow will take on the role of the predatory Ailes. Margot Robbie is also set to star as an associate producer, while Trumbo's Jay Roach will direct.
With three Oscar winners and two nominees in the Fox News film, McKinnon will be performing along some heavy-hitters. She recently starred alongside Mila Kunis in the action comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me.
McKinnon is not new to portraying Fox News notables; she recently played race-baiting pundit Laura Ingraham on Saturday Night Live.
