Tripping after eating a psychedelic cupcake isn't always easy.
Thankfully, Mark (Mark Blane) is visited by a hallucinatory superhero, Leather-Man (Christian Patrick, Interior. Leather. Bar.), who helps calm him and guide him back down to earth in the exclusive clip from Cubby below.
In Cubby, Mark is a 20-something who moves to New York City hoping to become an artist. To make the rent, he begins babysitting a 6-year-old from a tony Brooklyn family. Add drugs into the mix, and the experience is overwhelming.
Mark's protector, Leather-Man, appears throughout his journey to help him out of tough spots. "He's a guardian angel of sorts. He gives wisdom out, that's his superpower," Blane told The Advocate at Outfest's opening night in July.
Blane, who also wrote and co-directed the dark comedy with Ben Mankoff, also hoped to one day see a superhero film where Leather-Man is the star. "He would roam the earth and talk to young queers and tell them how to take care of themselves and not overdraft their bank account [and] use a lot of lube," Blane said. "He would be that daddy that is there for everyone."
Cubby recently screened at a centerpiece film at NewFest, New York's LGBTQ film festival. It premieres in theaters November 1 and on VOD November 12.
