The biopic about the gay singer received a standing ovation at the French film festival.
Their gift was Elton John's song at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Rocketman.
The gay singer and the actor who portrays him in the upcoming biopic, Taron Egerton, sang a duet of "Rocket Man" at the gala screening. They hugged after the song.
The pair were reportedly both in tears after the screening, which received a standing ovation and, afterward, rave reviews from critics. The film also made headlines this week by being the first production from a major studio to feature gay sex scenes.
Rocketman officially premieres May 31, although a special early access screening is available Saturday in select theaters if tickets are purchased through Fandango.
