Exclusion of LGBTQ+ stories from holiday movies is now a thing of the past with Netflix's Let it Snow, Freeform's The Thing About Harry, and Sony's upcoming queer Kristen Stewart-Mackenzie Davis starrer Happiest Season from director Clea DuVall. Now the trailer for Lifetime's first LGBTQ+ Christmas movie, The Christmas Setup, which stars real-life married couple Blake Lee (Parks and Recreation) and Ben Lewis (Arrow, The Handmaid's Tale), is out.
Lewis plays Hugo, a New York City lawyer who goes to Milwaukee with his best friend, Madelyn (GLOW's Ellen Wong), to spend Christmas with his mom, played by The Nanny's Fran Drescher.
A meddling matchmaker who also runs the local holiday festivities, Hugo's mom, Kate, arranges for him to run into his old crush Patrick (Lee), who's home from his high-powered job in Silicon Valley. As the romance appears to be taking off, a wrench is thrown into the works when Hugo is offered a job in London.
Lewis and Lee's love story began in 2010 when they randomly met in the bathroom at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood for the premiere of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which costarred Lee. Lee returned to his seat and jokingly told his friend, "I just met the man I'm going to marry -- at the urinal."
The Christmas Setup is written by Michael J. Murray and directed by Pat Mills.
