We couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming LGBTQ-inclusive films that are being released in 2024. Thankfully, we’ve been experiencing a wave of new queer content in past years, and 2024 is once again jam-packed with exciting projects about characters that make us feel seen on the big screen.
Between comedies, dramas, sports movies, musicals, thrillers, and indies, the slate of LGBTQ+ movies scheduled to be released this year is looking pretty exciting.

Best known for Schitt’s Creek, Dan Levy makes his directorial debut in Netflix’s Good Grief starring alongside Ruth Negga, Himesh Patel, and Luke Evans.
He Went That Way follows a celebrity animal handler named Jim (Zachary Quinto) who gives a ride to a handsome stranger named Bobby (Jacob Elordi), who happens to be a young serial killer. The film is based on a true story.
The Plastics are back in this 2024 musical reboot of Mean Girls, starring out bisexual actresses Reneé Rapp (as Regina George) and Auli'i Cravalho as Janis.
Jane Schoenbrun’s new horror film, I Saw the TV Glow, is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 18 at Sundance. There’s still no date for the film’s theatrical release, but we can’t wait to see it when it gets a wide release.
John Early is the lead actor in Stress Positions, a new film by Theda Hammel. In the movie, the character of Terry is undergoing strict quarantine in his ex-husband’s home while caring for his nephew, who just suffered an injury.
Layla is a new movie from filmmaker Amrou Al-Kadhi that follows a struggling Arab drag queen — the titular character — falling in love for the first time and going through a deeply transformative experience during that period of time.
Set in New Jersey, Ponyboi unfolds during Valentine’s Day as it follows an intersex sex worker running from the mob after a drug deal doesn’t go as well as expected. The cast of Ponyboi includes actors like River Gallo, Dylan O’Brien, Murray Bartlett, and Indya Moore.

In Sebastian, Max (played by Ruaridh Mollica) is an aspiring writer who starts making money as a sex worker living in London while doing research for his novel.
Will Ferrell stars in the documentary Will & Harper, which is about the actor and comedian finding out that his close friend of 30 years, Harper Steele, is coming out as a trans woman. As a result, Ferrell and Steele go on a cross-country road trip as they seek a better understanding of how their long-time friendship can evolve.
From filmmaker Alessandra Lacorazza Samudio, In the Summers is the story of two sisters learning how to deal with their complex father every time that they visit him during the summer.

Kieran (Theo Germaine) is an Iranian-American trans man who travels back in time to understand his sexual identity. Desire Lines is an erotic journey of self-discovery that we’ll definitely be watching this year.
Ethan Coe’s Drive-Away Dolls centers on Jamie (Margaret Qualley), who just broke up with her girlfriend, going on a road trip with her best friend Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan).
Lou (Kristen Stewart) and Jackie (Katy O’Brian) play queer bodybuilders in A24’s Love Lies Bleeding. The film was written and directed by Rose Glass.
In Challengers, Zendaya (Tashi Duncan) Josh O’Connor (Patrick), and Mike Faist (Art Donaldson) play a titillating love triangle in this Luca Guadagnino film about the world of tennis. We WILL be seated for this one!
With Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Galinda, and Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, the Broadway hit musical Wicked is coming to the big screen this year. The first installment in this two-part cinematic experience premieres Nov. 27.
Written, directed, and starring Julio Torres, Problemista is an upcoming comedy from A24 that also features Tilda Swinton, James Scully, RZA, Greta Lee, and Catalina Saavedra.

The new David Lowery film Mother Mary, which has been picked up by A24, will feature the characters of Michaela Coel and Anne Hathaway playing lovers.

Besides Challengers, director Luca Guadagnino is also currently working on an LGBTQ+ movie titled Queer, which is also expected to premiere some time this year. With Daniel Craig playing the lead role of Lee, Queer follows his character wandering around Mexico City and crushing hard on a man named Allerton (played by Drew Starkey).
Set in the 1950s after the Korean War, the cast of On Swift Horses is about the love triangle set between Muriel (Daisy Edgar-Jones), Julius (Jacob Elordi), and Lee (Will Poulter).

Sing Sing is a film about a group of prisoners at the Sing Sing Correctional Facility trying to stage an original production titled Breakin’ The Mummy's Code. The film features Colman Domingo as John ‘Divine G’ Whitfield and Paul Raci as Brent Buell.
