Red, White, & Royal Blue, the queer romantic comedy about the son of the U.S. president (Taylor Zakhar Perez) and a British prince (Nicholas Galitzine) falling in love, was released on Amazon's Prime Video earlier this month. It debuted as the number one movie globally on the streamer during its premiere weekend.
Prime Video is also touting the film as one of its top three most-watched romantic comedies of all time — although the platform is keeping mum about what the other two films are.
Not only are Prime Video customers flocking to the film, which taught straight people that gay men can have missionary sex, but new customers are also signing up just to watch it. According to Amazon, they’ve had a “huge surge in new Prime membership signups” due to the film’s release.
“The phenomenal debut of Red, White & Royal Blue is a true testament to the entertaining and inspired storytelling led by the creative minds behind it. Matthew López, Casey McQuiston, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and the entire talented filmmaking team hit it out of the park,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, in a statement reported by several outlets. “We are so proud of this delightful, heartwarming film and could not be more thrilled with the response from fans–existing and new.”
Now the streaming platform has released a deleted scene featuring Alex Claremont-Diaz (Zakhar Perez) and Prince Henry (Galitzine). The new scene takes place as Alex is forced to return to England after a PR nightmare involving the prince. The two meet as enemies at first, but as the scene shows, there's definitely some chemistry already reacting even in this nighttime encounter.
Red, White, & Royal Blue is based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Casey McQuiston. It's directed by Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López and co-written by him and Ted Malawer.
