Matt Bomer gave a touching speech last night at the Golden Globes last night when he accepted the award for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series, Movie, or Miniseries for his portrayal of Felix Turner in The Normal Heart.
Bomer thanked Larry Kramer, who adapted his 1985 play for the HBO film, "for your anger and your passion and writing this story that changed so many lives," and his costar Mark Ruffalo, "for providing the heart and soul of this movie," then thanked his husband, publicist Simon Halls, and their three children "for putting up with me when I was 130 pounds and really grumpy when you ate pizza in front of me." Bomer lost a great deal of weight to play a man dying of AIDS complications.
He closed by saying, "To the generation that we lost and the people we continue to lose due to this disease, I just want to say we love you, we remember you." Watch below.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this report misstated that Bomer was the first out actor to win a Golden Globe for playing the role of a gay man. However, this distinction belongs to Chris Colfer for his role on Fox's Glee. The text has since been updated.
