Jonathan Groff stars in new gay rom-com 'A Nice Indian Boy'

The film, directed by Roshan Sethi and written by Eric Randall, is based on a play by Madhuri Shekar and also stars Sunia Mani, Zarna Greg, and Harish Patel.

“I was closeted only six years ago, so it’s surreal on a personal level to have made this particular romantic comedy about love and acceptance and family belonging,” Sethi said in a statement about the distribution deal. “I am excited for it to reach the world.”

The collaboration comes full circle. In Groff's recent Out Magazine cover story, he commented on how Sethi has said that the series Looking, in which Groff played the lead gay character, helped him come out.

"I'm just so proud that it's still there, and it's still a beacon for some people," Groff said of Looking's legacy. "And it's like a forever beacon for all of us that worked on it."

A Nice Indian Boy debuted at the SXSW Film Festival and has won awards at the Hamptons International Film Festival, Tasveer Film Festival, and Key West Film Festival.
