When a leading source of LGBT news in Dallas recently offered same-sex couples a venue to plan the wedding of their dreams, they didn't have to holler twice. The one-of-a-kind LGBT-centered wedding convention drew hundreds of couples-to-be.
The Dallas Voice held the Wedding Party and Expo at Dallas's Hilton Anatole Hotel Sunday in celebration of the recent Supreme Court decision making national same-sex marriage legal nationwide, reports the paper's website. The expo attracted vendors from a variety of local businesses selling cakes, flowers, decorations, and even custom gowns and tuxedos to attendees looking to plan the perfect wedding.
"The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that marriage equality is the law of the land and same-sex couples are now able to tie the knot for the first time in Texas. For an LGBT couple in a committed relationship, few things are more exciting than this BIG DAY," read the description of the event on the Dallas Voice's website.
"Planning a wedding can be exhausting! Getting all the details right -- from ordering the cake to planning the honeymoon -- requires a great deal of time, effort and energy. Now, thanks to Dallas Voice and the North Texas GLBT Chamber of Commerce, you have The Wedding Party & Expo to get you organized!"
According to The Dallas Morning News, some of the expo's attendees have been waiting to get organized at an event like this for a long time. One couple, Gilbert Castillo and Jon Chester, have been planning their wedding for years now in anticipation that one day their marriage would be legal in the state of Texas.
"Our hope was that it would be made legal by our 25th year together," Castillo, who has been with Chester for 24 years, told the Morning News.
