A new video by filmmaker Yulin Kuang celebrates marriage equality in a unique way.
The short film, released Tuesday, features couples from every U.S. state. Many of the couples discuss their relationships, tell proposal stories or talk about where they were on June 26, 2015, the day the U.S. Supreme Court made marriage equality the law of the land.
Kuang opens the film quoting Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, who wrote in the Obergefell v. Hodges marriage equality ruling that "marriage is essential to our most profound hopes and aspirations." The video continues, featuring voiceover narration of Shakespeare's Sonnet 116, which begins
"Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments."
Kuang, who lives in Los Angeles, has obtained photos of couples from states she wasn't able to visit and her final product"Love Wins" was released by the YouTube channel Field Day. The channel allows promising creators to tackle a subject of their choice and is produced by YouTube and 1st Avenue Machine.
