The host of MSNBC's Hardball is now in the hot seat for disparaging remarks about Hillary Clinton.

"Where's that Bill Cosby pill I brought with me?" joked Chris Matthews with a long laugh, during the set-up for an interview with the Democratic politician on January 5, 2016.

In a clip obtained by The Cut, Matthews cracked several jokes about the then-presidential hopeful. "Can I have some of the queen's waters? Precious waters?" Matthews asked aides, who appeared shocked by the Cosby comments.

More than 60 women have accused comedian Bill Cosby of drugging and raping them. Lesbian accuser Andrea Constand had the only case for which the statute of limitations had not run out. Her case ended in a mistrial due to a deadlocked jury, with a retrial scheduled for March or April 2018.

This is not the first time Matthews has made sexist remarks about Clinton. In the past, he has called her "She Devil," "Nurse Ratched," and "Madame Defarge," reports Jezebel. In the interview following the "Bill Cosby pill" remark, Matthews also brought up the infidelity of Clinton's husband and questioned where women can "physically handle" some military roles.

Matthews apologized for his remarks in the pre-interview tape to The Cut.

"This was a terrible comment I made in poor taste during the height of the Bill Cosby headlines," he said. "I realize that's no excuse. I deeply regret it and I'm sorry."
