Donald Trump

The publication claims the announcement was the work of a hacker. But plenty of Twitter users are having fun with it.

Someone hacked the conservative Washington Examiner's Twitter feed this morning to tweet that Donald Trump is going to hell.

"Trump is going to hell," read the tweet, which has now been deleted. "Anyone who ever read the bible can tell you where it stands on rich adulterers.

"The key to God's forgiveness is repentance. Trump's entire political career has been about the exact opposite of that. Also this paper is garbage for promoting 'Trump and God.'"

The tweet was sent to the publication's 140,000 Twitter followers at 5:13 a.m. Eastern, The Hill reports. "Other standard, unprovocative tweets were later posted by the conservative publication," according to The Hill, noting that the "going to hell" tweet was taken down about 7 a.m.

The Examiner then tweeted that its feed was hacked and that it was investigating the situation.

That didn't stop other Twitter users from making pointed comments on it.

Someone even speculated on how Trump himself would comment on it.

Trudy Ring is The Advocate’s senior politics editor and copy chief. She has been a reporter and editor for daily newspapers and LGBTQ+ weeklies/monthlies, trade magazines, and reference books. She is a political junkie who thinks even the wonkiest details are fascinating, and she always loves to see political candidates who are groundbreaking in some way. She enjoys writing about other topics as well, including religion (she’s interested in what people believe and why), literature, theater, and film. Trudy is a proud “old movie weirdo” and loves the Hollywood films of the 1930s and ’40s above all others. Other interests include classic rock music (Bruce Springsteen rules!) and history. Oh, and she was a Jeopardy! contestant back in 1998 and won two games. Not up there with Amy Schneider, but Trudy still takes pride in this achievement.
