The storylines of Trans Monogamist come from real-life triumphs and tribulations.
Trans Monogamist is a new short form web series that follows four struggling Brooklyn twenty-somethings dealing with intimacy, dating, and vulnerability.
The show's protagonist, River, is a writer with a chronic inability to find a lasting boyfriend. We also follow Harbor and Greta, River's neighbors and friends from college who are in a long-term partnership. There's also Joseph, a charming sidekick who's always the life of the party.
Joshua Byron and Alfredo Franco not only play River and Harbor, but serve as co-creators and writers of the series.
"Me and Alfredo really wanted to make a show about the people we hung out with, the people we dated, and sort of discuss different dating styles -- from monogamy to polyamory, but also discuss what it's like for our friend group to be living and working and trying to have fun right now" Byron tells us.
With storylines culled from real life experiences, the show maintains a likeable authenticity. Trans Monogamist also inserts non-binary characters into a genre where they're virtually invisible. We're able to watch these characters at their highest highs and lowest lows, and see them grow throughout the whole series. Alana Ruiz, who plays Joseph, says, "I'm looking forward to watching it in its entirety and being able to watch my own personal growth."
The first episode is available to watch below, and new episodes will be posted on Mondays on the Artless Media YouTube Channel.
