LGBTQ+ stories are more important than ever. Join us in fighting for our future. Support our journalism.

PFLAG National, the first and largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people, their parents, families, and allies, is bringing back its Parent Day celebration. The event will be virtual and feature appearances from Big Freedia, Cody Rigsby, George Takei, Matteo Lane, MUNA, Tommy DiDario, and the cast of Hulu's Love, Victor.

The theme will be "Lead Like Jeanne," in honor of PFLAG founder Jeanne Manford, who wrote a letter of support for her gay son during a rise in LGBTQ+ demonstrations exactly 50 years ago.

"It took an enormous amount of courage to be openly LGBTQ+ fifty years ago, and it took chutzpah to be an LGBTQ+ affirming parent and school teacher then, too," Brian K. Bond, Executive Director of PFLAG National, said in a statment. "But Jeanne Manford showed us not only that LGBTQ+ allies can speak up and speak out, but that we should. In a year when officials from the State House to the school board have criminalized parents of LGBTQ+ people, PFLAG National is proud to celebrate the parents and caregivers who lead like Jeanne did. We hope everyone who loves an LGBTQ+ person can join us for inspiration, courage and a good dose of chutzpah on May 22nd for PFLAG Parent Day,"

The event will feature stories from LGBTQ+ folks, parents, and allies as well as celebrity appearances. It will stream on PFLAG's website at 2 p.m. ET on May 22, 2022.
