That's despite the GOP-controlled Florida Senate declining to take up Tina Descovich's confirmation earlier this year.

One of Moms For Liberty’s co-founders was elevated to Vice Chair of the Florida Commission on Ethics.

Tina Descovich, who was appointed to the Ethics Commission by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, was put in the No. 2 spot for the committee through a unanimous vote, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

“Thank you to my fellow commissioners for the vote of confidence and to Gov. Ron DeSantis for the opportunity to serve our great state,” Descovich posted on X.

That’s especially notably as the Republican-controlled Florida Senate declined to consider Descovich’s confirmation during its regular Legislative Session earlier this year.

That legislative snub came amid concerns her work for Moms For Liberty, a group identified by watchdogs by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an anti-LGBTQ+ extremist group, was effectively lobbying government agencies.

But Florida law allows gubernatorial appointees two years to serve without Senate confirmation. Additionally, DeSantis has re-upped Descovich’s appointment to the Ethics Commission.

Descovich said the Vice Chair selection by commission peers shows she will enforce ethics for Florida government officials in an even-handed way.

“I have a record of sitting on the commission now, working with my fellow commissioners across all aisles in a nonpartisan manner and ruling consistent with what a good commissioner should do, and so I fully expect that the Senate will confirm me this year," she told the Democrat.

Beyond the activities of her group, Descovich has made numerous statements critical of LGBTQ+ equality, some recently. The former Brevard County School Board member has been an outspoken critic of diversity initiatives at any level of education.

A pinned post on X endorsing Donald Trump for president includes attacks on “Radical Gender Ideology” and supports keeping “men out of women’s sports,” a rhetorical attack on transgender athletes.

She said in the post she believes Trump will “Cut federal funding for any school pushing CRT, Radical Gender Ideology and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content on our children.”
