The singer kicks it off by collaborating with Jean Paul Gaultier on a limited edition T-shirt.
Gossip singer and style muse Beth Ditto has created a plus-size fashion line that's set to hit U.S. stores in February.
The out 34-year-old musician, who recently walked the runway for designer Marc Jacobs, previously designed a collection for Evans, a British plus-size clothing store, in 2009.
She kicks off her new line by releasing a limited edition T-shirt, a collaboration with fashion designer and close friend Jean Paul Gaultier.
The $165 dress-length shirt features front-and-back lithograph prints of the famous bullet bra corset Gaultier designed and Madonna made famous on her early 1990s Blond Ambition tour. The witty design includes adjustable laces in the back so whoever wears the shirt can tighten and loosen the "corset." The shirt marks the first time a Gaultier design is available for women up to a U.S. size 30.
"Big girls are beautiful and Beth is super beautiful!" Gaultier said in a press release. "Long live the beauty with shapes, boobs and bottoms. This is a new concept, a loose fit corset. And Beth fits it perfectly."
A portion of the shirt's proceeds will benefit the Girls Rock Camp Foundation, which helps girls develop life skills, creative expression and collaboration through music.
Ditto's full collection will be a mix of vintage and contemporary looks with an emphasis on colorful prints and tailored pieces, showcasing an edginess often missing from plus-size clothing.
"This line is by us, for us, period," Ditto said in the same release. "It's my lifelong dream to get to design real clothes for big people, clothes that are comfortable and cool!"
