Lady Gaga served up a polished, if a bit sanitized, halftime show for Super Bowl LI.
The pop star initially appeared above the Houston sky to sing "God Bless America" and "This Land Is Your Land," and even a spoken verse of the "Pledge of Allegiance," as red, white, and blue stars filled the sky. Wearing a sparkly bodysuit, with matching go-go boots and eye makeup, Gaga looked almost modest by her usual standards.
After dropping from the sky via cables, the Academy Award-nominee and multiple Grammy winner performed a straight-forward medley of her biggest hits, like "Just Dance," "Bad Romance," and "Telephone." Gaga also loudly and proudly sang "Pokerface" -- which is about her fantasizing about another woman -- and her ode to diversity, "Born This Way." She, of course, belted out that song's most famous lyrics:
"No matter gay, straight, or bi
Lesbian, transgendered life
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to be brave"
