Billy Porter has released a video of a recording of "Love the Pain Away."
In the introduction to the video, released Monday, the Pose star revealed that he had penned this song in the wake of the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo.
"This sentiment is still necessary today," said Porter, alluding to the gun violence that still plagues American schools. "We gonna teach y'all to love the pain away."
The emotional video was created as part of YouTube personality Michael Korte's "One Take" series, which Korte describes as "an intimate acoustic series spotlighting incredible new voices." Pose costar MJ Rodriguez had previously recorded a track of Diana Ross's "Home."
Porter, a Broadway legend known for his Tony Award-winning performance in Kinky Boots, was recently nominated at the Golden Globes for his Pose role as Pray Tell for Best Actor - Television Series Drama. He lost in his category, but his gender-fluid red-carpet looks were declared tens-across-the-board by mainstream and LGBTQ outlets alike.
