Although Brandi Carlile had been in the music industry amassing a die-hard fan base for more than a decade, she had a breakout moment earlier this year when she won three Grammy Awards in February and wowed the audience with a live performance of her song "The Joke" from her 2018 album By the Way, I Forgive You. Now, with the Elton John biopic Rocketman about to soar at the box office, Carlile has shared a photo shoot she did with Harper's Bazaar in which she paid homage to the glam rocker's iconic style by adopting some of his famous looks including faux fur, platform shoes, bell bottoms, and oversized sunglasses.

"Anyone who knows me knows that I'm absolutely beside myself with joy over this!! I got to dress up as ELTON JOHN, my greatest hero of all time for @harpersbazaarus," Carlile wrote on Instagram. "It was such an honor to wear these beautiful clothes and pay tribute to the gift that @eltonjohn is to the world! My beloved @bernietaupinofficialwrote a beautiful piece (no surprise) to go along with this feature."

Dressing Carlile, a lesbian who's renowned for her down-to-earth style and roots music, as the over-the-top glam rocker was an inspired choice for the magazine. Carlile acknowledged the talent who helped turn out her John looks.

"Shout out to the incredible glam team for the best day I can imagine," she wrote. "This is the gayest I've ever looked!"

Rocketman stars Taron Egerton as John, Richard Madden (Bodyguard) as his first male love interest, John Reid, and Jamie Bell (Snowpiercer, Billy Elliot) as his lyricist and longtime collaborator, Bernie Taupin. The movie lands in theaters May 31.
