Love, Janis closes its doors off-Broadway

Love, Janis, the stage biography of bisexual singing legend Janis Joplin, will close down its off-Broadway production Sunday, November 4, according to Playbill.com. The show featured Catherine Curtin as the "private Janis," while Andra Mitrovich and openly lesbian performer Cathy Richardson alternated as the "public/performing Janis," due to the rigors of recreating Joplin's unique vocal style. On Sunday, Love, Janis will have played 12 previews and 222 performances at New York's Village Theater. The venue was temporarily inaccessible following the destruction of the World Trade Center on September 11, and the show never regained its initial momentum following the attacks.
