Sexual Resource Center opens in San Francisco

The National Sexuality Resource Center, which will provide accurate information on sexuality for the public, researchers, and policymakers, opened Thursday in San Francisco, according to a press release from the center. The center is located at 2017 Mission St., Suite 200, in the Mission District of the city. A grand opening event was marked by a speech from former U.S. surgeon general David Satcher.

"Sexuality is still seen by most academics as an unfit topic for scientific study," said Gilbert Herdt, who serves as director of the center. "The media sensationalizes sexuality the same time reactionary groups use it as a political football to promote their own agendas. No wonder the public has a hard time separating fact from fantasy when it comes to sexuality. We want to end the silence and game playing about sexuality and help Americans understand how to sustain a healthy and pleasurable sexual relationship across life."

For more information about the center, visit its Web site at nsrc.sfsu.edu.
