Antigay slurs, written in chalk, were discovered early Friday morning blanketing the campus of Michigan Technological University, which had been in the midst of gay pride activity week. The graffiti, which was reported at 3 a.m. Friday by the grounds crew, threatened gays with violence via bats, mutilation, and guns. "It's hard to know if it's in response to gay pride week or if it's someone that's all of a sudden become angry," Les Cook, vice president of student affairs, told The Daily Mining Gazette. The university's Office of Public Safety is investigating the incident. Grounds crews cleaned up the graffiti late Friday afternoon. "I'm angry," said Marc Starnes, president of Keweenaw Pride, Tech's GLBT student group. "I would like to start educating people that things like this do exist. I don't want to attack or ridicule, I just want to educate."
