Bruce Steele, The Advocate's editor in chief since January 2003, is leaving the magazine effective October 6.

Steele, who resigned his position on Tuesday, has been a guiding editorial voice of The Advocate since joining the publication in 1999 as executive editor. Steele, who lives in Los Angeles with his partner of 20 years, Christopher Oakley, previously served as executive editor of Out magazine.

The Advocate's current executive editor, Anne Stockwell, will serve as acting editor in chief when Steele departs next month. "Bruce is a symbol of professionalism, integrity, and journalistic excellence for our community. The Advocate will always be better for his leadership, and we hope to carry his standards forward," said Stockwell. (The Advocate)
