UCLA will host
two exhibitions this year in order to commemorate World
AIDS Day on December 1. "Dress Up Against AIDS: Condom
Couture by Adriana Bertini" will feature garments
constructed of male and female condoms discarded for
failing industry standard tests. The exhibition runs
from December 1 until March 11 at the UCLA Fowler Museum.
"The Keiskamma
Altarpiece: Transcending AIDS in South Africa" will be
on view in the Glorya Kaufman Hall (adjacent to the Fowler
Museum) on December 1 and then again from January 10 until
March 11. One hundred thirty women from South
Africa's Eastern Cape province constructed the
multimedia work, which takes its inspiration from a
16th-century German altarpiece designed to celebrate the
region's overcoming a disastrous plague.
Admission to both
exhibitions is free to the public. For complete
information go to fowler.ucla.edu or call
(310) 825-4361.
