A Maine man is
suing a local police department, alleging he was
discriminated against because he is gay. Jeffrey Davenport
filed his lawsuit against the Caribou police
department, claiming he was arrested unfairly last
year for drunken driving, the Associated Press reports.
Although
Davenport admits that he was drinking last May when he was
stopped by police, he asserts in his complaint that because
he is gay, his vehicle was searched without a warrant
and the results from his breath alcohol test were
switched with another test, among other issues. The
complaint alleges that police "conspired to file erroneous
police reports as a result of personal animus towards
the plaintiff for his sexual orientation," according
to the AP.
The AP also reports that Davenport has been
convicted twice before for operating under the
influence. (The Advocate)
