Presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have signed on to debate issues pertaining to LGBT Americans on the queer-centric Logo Network, according to a Logo press release. The one-hour event will be broadcast live on August 9 from Los Angeles and feature copanelists Melissa Etheridge and Human Rights Campaign president Joe Solmonese.

The event marks the first time ever that major presidential candidates have held a debate aimed primarily at the LGBT demographic. Issues scheduled for discussion include marriage equality, relationship recognition, the military, HIV and AIDS, and workplace fairness.

"From the repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell' to the recent signing of a civil unions bill in New Hampshire, there is no doubt that voters will demand answers to important questions affecting our community," Solmonese said in the press release.

Also planned are online components including viewer question submission. Though Obama and Clinton have signed on, the Human Rights Campaign and Logo have invited leading hopefuls from both the Democratic and Republican camps. (The Advocate)
