In recognition
of her 35 years of fervent activism, Teresa
DeCrescenzo, executive director of GLASS Youth and Family
Services, will receive the 2007 Monette-Horowitz Trust
Award. Founded in 1984, GLASS provides an array of
services to LGBT youths including congregate care,
foster family placement, mentoring, and transitional
housing.
The
Monette-Horowitz Trust was established in 1994 by activist
and author Paul Monette in memory of his partner,
Roger Horowitz. The trust annually gives awards to
people who make significant contributions to
the fight against homophobia.
"I am
especially proud to receive this honor since I was close
friends of Paul Monette and Roger Horowitz, and since
the last public appearance made by my late partner,
Betty Berzon, was in Paul's honor," DeCrescenzo
said in a press release. "The work I have been able to
accomplish and my efforts to help LGBT youth become healthy
adults could not have happened without the support of
Paul and Roger. They were a wonderful, loving couple
and a great example for children who receive GLASS
services."
DeCrescenzo
continued, "I have dedicated much of my life to ending
homophobia in the child welfare community, so this
recognition has special meaning to me." (The
