The National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association has selected its next executive director. David Barre will succeed Pamela Strother, who left the NLGJA in October after 10 years with the group, the last six as executive director.
Barre comes to the NLGJA with years of experience from the Association of Corporate Counsel, Greenpeace, and the National Minority AIDS Council. He said in a press release that he plans to expand membership and corral a more diverse group of benefactors.
"NLGJA is fortunate to have found someone with such strong credentials and an understanding of what is important to the news industry, especially regarding issues involving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities," said NLGJA national president Eric Hegedus. "His professional skills and visionary outlook will translate to organizational growth that will both benefit our members and raise awareness about coverage concerns that face LGBT journalists every day."
Barre will join the staff by early fall. (The Advocate)
