A conservative Christian legal group is asking a California appeals court to temporarily prohibit gay marriages.

Liberty Counsel filed court documents Thursday arguing that the California supreme court ruling last month legalizing gay marriages has thrown dozens of state laws addressing marriage into conflict.

Liberty Counsel lawyers argue that the gay marriages should be banned until state lawmakers can fix the alleged conflicts.

The lawyers also argue that the high court's ruling should be placed on hold until after the November elections, when California voters will decide whether to amend the state constitution to ban the unions. (AP)
