While gay political group the Log Cabin Republicans endorsed Sen. John McCain based on his rejection of the Federal Marriage Amendment, the group's endorsement of his running mate, Alaska governor Sarah Palin, based on her veto of a state bill to block domestic-partner benefits for state workers has been misinterpreted by some in the media, according to MediaMatters.org.

Media outlets CNN and United Press International are reporting that Palin supports benefits for same-sex partners of state employees. While Palin did veto a bill in 2006 that would have prevented state officials from granting partner benefits, she acknowledged she did so because the state attorney general advised her it was unconstitutional for the state to refuse such benefits, according to MediaMatters. Palin has stated that she believes spousal benefits should be reserved for married, heterosexual couples.

Additionally, Palin does not agree with McCain on the FMA -- she fully supports it. (The Advocate)
