The University of
California, Santa Barbara, will host the 19th
LGBTQIA Western Regional College Conference February 13-15.
This
year's theme is "Cultivating Our Roots, From
the Ground Up: How Deep Is Your Love?" The
conference is designed to provide a place for
people of all identities to feel safe and welcome as well as
educate and empower queer youths, students, families,
professionals, other community members, and allies. It
also aims to provide opportunities for dialogue,
networking, and fostering activism on issues at the local,
state, and national levels.
Since its
inception, universities across California have hosted the
conference, bringing hundreds of students to their campus
for a weekend of workshops and entertainment.
Confirmed speakers and entertainers for this year
include, Faisal Alam, MEDUSA, Mia Mingus, and Good Asian
Drivers. The previous two conferences have been at
University of California campuses -- Los Angeles in
2008 and Riverside in 2007.
