Wolfe Releasing
has acquired the North American rights to two new feature
films -- Steam and Newcastle -- to be released
in theaters this summer. Wolfe Releasing
head Maria Lynn announced the acquisitions this
week in a press release. The release also noted that Wolfe
is at a "turning point" in gay cinema,
noting "a maturation" within the genre
that can be attributed to an evolving LGBT audience that is
becoming an ever more visible part of American
society.
Steam, starring Ally Sheedy, Kate Siegel, and
Ruby Dee, tells the story of three women, all at critical
points in their lives, who meet in their local
gym's steam room and bond over sharing their
individual struggles with one another. Steam is set
to be released in August.
Australian-shot
Newcastle is the semiautobiographical account
of director Dan Castle's experiences as a gay
teenager living in a surfer culture in a coastal
area of Australia. Following the adventures of a
group teenage surfer friends during a weekend they
spend together on a secluded beach, Newcastle will be
released in July. (Advocate.com)
