The number of California legislators who support LGBT rights is more than three times the number of those endorsed by the anti-LGBT lobby. Legislators from both sides are rated based on their performance on key votes. Equality California (EQCA) will endorse only candidates who score 100% on its scorecard, supporting LGBT rights on every front. With no room for compromise, an astounding 67 legislators still earn Equality California's endorsement ; meanwhile, the antigay Capitol Resource Institute gives a 100% rating to a mere 18 legislators.
EQCA rates legislators and endorses LGBT-supportive candidates in order to educate voters and help them to vote for equality.
In 2008 more than half of the California legislature voted in favor of LGBT rights 100% of the time, which helped put LGBT Californians on the path to having the strongest civil rights protections in the United States.
