The entertainment industry turned out Wednesday night, packing into the home of Kevin Iwashina, former CAA agent and current partner in Hunting Lane Films, to honor the recent appointment of John Cooper, a gay man and longtime Sundance executive and programmer, to the role of director of the Sundance Film Festival. Iwashina's apartment at the Royal on Doheny Drive in Los Angeles was not only filled with fellow gay entertainment bigwigs like Bruce Cohen, Alan Poul, and Gregg Araki, but also brought out Nancy Utley, recently named co-head of Fox Searchlight; Mark Urman, president of Senator Entertainment; Dawn Hudson, executive director of FIND; Michael London, CEO of Groundswell; and many other industry notables. Guests ate buffet Chinese food and sipped Belvedere and Grey Goose cocktails while vying for a chance to congratulate "Cooper," as he is affectionately called by most.
