Charlotte, N.C.'s new mayor, Anthony Foxx (pictured), said the city council will consider adding benefits for same-sex domestic partners of city employees, Charlotte's WCNC TV reports.

The announcement comes a week after Mecklenburg Country, which includes Charlotte, became the seventh local government in the state to extend benefits to the same-sex partners of its employees. The cities of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, and Greensboro, and Durham and Orange counties also offer the benefits.
