Kaitlin Grant, a 23-year-old substitute teacher from Elmont, New York, was arrested March 9 for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student at Freeport High School in Long Island, according to the Associated Press. Grant was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual acts, but her attorney told reporters that she "emphatically denies the allegations."

According to the police, Grant had a relationship with the teenager from November 2011 to February 2012, though no reports say how or who ended it, leading some to wonder about whether the accusation is retaliatory. Police said one of the girl's family members had alerted the authorities this month to the alleged relationship, which is illegal regardless of the set up because the age of consent in New York is 17.

Grant has been fired from her substitute teaching position, according to the Wall Street Journal.
