The fliers were handed out in the same county that has been targeted for proposing a policy in support of trans students.
Police in Leesburg, Va. have collected around 35 flyers that had been given out by the white supremacist group the Loyal White Knights -- also known as the Ku Klux Klan -- reported WTOP.
The fliers, put in plastic sandwich bags and weighted down, were placed around homes in a Loudoun County neighborhood.
The flyering follows a Loudoun County school board meeting that ended its public session due to protestors that were against a proposed policy to recognize trans students' names and pronouns.
The fliers read:
"LOUDON COUNTY, VA- OPPOSE QUEER-LOVING, CRT-CRAZY SCHOOL BOARD! CITIZENS, WORK TOGETHER WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT- WE'LL NEED EACH OTHER TO STOP THE COMMUNISTS!!! ... 100% AMERICANISM - PRAY FOR WHITE AMERICANS"
On the flyer, the group had put a web address, a phone number, a podcast ad, and a spelling mistake-laden copy of the First Amendment. It also referenced Critical Race Theory, a concept that points out the structural racism faced by Black Americans, but that right-wing groups say teaches that white people are evil.
\u201cSo, the Klan has been leaving these flyers around Loudoun County after the School Board was supposed to discuss implementing state law requiring protections for trans students.\n\nI don't think I can say it more plainly that the far right is jumping in on trans people.\u201d— Brynn Tannehill (@Brynn Tannehill) 1624570438
Leesburg Police Department's deputy chief of policy and acting public information officer, Major Vanessa Grigsby, said that the KKK had left fliers around before, according to LGBTQ Nation. She told the outlet that the KKK usually hands fliers out around the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
