The husband of anti-LGBTQ+ Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Perry Greene, has filed for divorce.

According to court documents, Perry Greene filed to divorce the right-wing lawmaker on Tuesday, the Daily Beast reports. The papers said that the couple's 27-year marriage was "irretrievably broken." They also indicated that the Greenes had already been separated.

Marjorie Taylor and Perry Greene met in college.

The outlet reports that Perry Greene has requested the divorce kept under seal. He argued, "that the record will contain sensitive personal and financial information, the public disclosure of which would negatively impact the parties' privacy interests."

Rep. Greene told the Beast in a statement, "Marriage is a wonderful thing and I'm a firm believer in it. Our society is formed by a husband and wife creating a family to nurture and protect. Together, Perry and I formed our family and raised three great kids. He gave me the best job title you can ever earn: Mom. I'll always be grateful for how great of a dad he is to our children. This is a private and personal matter and I ask that the media respect our privacy at this time."

The congresswoman voted against the recent marriage equality bill that the House of Representatives passed in light of Justice Clarence Thomas's concurring opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson's Women's Health Organization that struck down Roe v. Wade. Thomas argued that the supreme court decision legalizing same-sex marriage in the U.S. was flawed and should be reconsidered.

Perry Green's petition for divorce asks the pair's assets and debt to be equally divided, according to the Hill.

Rep. Greene's husband said in a statement, "Marjorie has been my best friend for the last 29 years and she has been an amazing mom! Our family is our most important thing we have done. As we go on different paths we will continue to focus on our 3 incredible kids and their future endeavors and our friendship."
