This fall Vermonters can pack on the pounds and feel good about it. Famed Vermont ice cream maker Ben and Jerry's has taken the state's new marriage equality law to heart and renamed their much-loved flavor "Chubby Hubby" -- it will be called "Hubby Hubby" for the month of September.

A company official said the sweet dedication was more than just a matter of good taste. "At the core of Ben & Jerry's values, we believe that social justice can and should be something that every human being is entitled to," said Walt Freese, CEO of Ben & Jerry's. "From the very beginning of our 30-year history, we have supported equal rights for all people. The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction and something worth celebrating with peace, love, and plenty of ice cream."

Hubby Hubby will be available across the state at Ben & Jerry's shops, though regular Chubby Hubby tubs will continue to be sold across the rest of the country due to distribution challenges.

Ben and Jerry's has teamed up with New York LGBT-advocacy group Freedom to Marry to raise awareness about the importance of marriage equality. Visit the Freedom to Marry website to sign a petition supporting same-sex marriage and learn more about advancing the cause.
